Working as a member of our small friendly clinic team, this new role will suit someone who has substantial experience of working in an optometric practice, has a positive can-do attitude, enjoys interacting with people, and is organised.  The post will include dealing with patients and students in the teaching clinics, as well as providing some management support to the clinic manager.

This position is part-time for 2 days per week (14 hours per week), is available for a fixed-term period of 2 years and is available immediately.

Job Purpose

Support the University Eye Clinic located in the School of Optometry carrying out eye examinations and other enhanced services to provide patients with the best clinical care and memorable patient journey. Providing advice, guidance and support to patients, staff and students ensuring the best clinical care and leadership to all.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  1. GOC registration, and relevant experience in optometric practice.  You will be expected to maintain CPD to ensure continued GOC registration, and to uphold membership of an NHS Health Board (or equivalent) to practice as an Optometrist in the Cardiff University, and/or any associated, patient-facing clinics.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  1. Substantial experience of working as an Optometrist with some teaching experience.
  2. Able to demonstrate professional clinical knowledge and product knowledge to give advice and guidance to staff, students, and patients.
  3. Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures.
  4. Ability of using practice management software as well as ability to use up-to-date versions of Microsoft Office.

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

  1. Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people including the elderly, people with sensory loss and/or special needs.
  2. Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

  1. Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions.
  2. Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within Optometry

Desirable Criteria

  1. Postgraduate/Professional qualification
  2. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment
  3. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.

Salary Range Max: £46,049
