The Vlismas team are currently looking for an Optometrist to join them for 1,2 or 3 days a week. Part time or locum considered.

The position would be for our Narberth and/or Newcastle Emlyn practices.

You would be joining a very experienced and professional support team who prioritise ensuring our patients have the very best experience when attending the practice.

You would be encouraged and supported to pursue further qualifications in any areas of clinical work that interests you. We also provide in house training events and have a range of equipment which includes OCTs and corneal topographer.

Advanced Clinical Optometrist with special interest in Medical Retina

The eye clinic is a friendly environment where multi-professional working is encouraged. At Aneurin Bevan our Ophthalmic department, consisting of 11 Consultant Ophthalmogists, one Associate Specialist and 6 Optometrists who provides invaluable support to busy outpatient eye clinic.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Optometrist with excellent communication skills to join our team. We are actively involved in teaching and clinical audit.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post involves work across a variety of sub-specialties across the Ophthalmology Department, including, but not limited to the glaucoma, medical retina and core optometry services. Advanced Clinical Optometrists have the highest level of specialist clinical training, knowledge, skills and experience exceeding that of both community and more traditional hospital eye service optometrists to provide disease treatment, patient care and management of both optometric and specific ophthalmology caseloads

Person Specification



  • GOC registration as an optometrist with the ‘independent prescribing of therapeutic drugs’ specialty
  • BSc Hons Optometry or equivalent
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience PLUS Post-graduate qualification(s) relating to a highly specialist aspect of clinical optometry e.g. College of Optometrists Professional/Higher certificate / Diploma ( Glaucoma / Medical Retina)


  • Member or Fellow of the College of Optometrists (MCOptom or FCOptom)
  • College of Optometrists Higher certificate in Medical Retina



  • Relevant specialist clinical experience optometric practice
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.


  • Evidence of managing clinical session workload
  • Clinical audit / research experience relevant to specialist practice
  • Team leader / managerial experience

Norma Davies Opticians is currently looking for an Optometrist to work, 3 days a week, between its Carmarthen and Llandysul practices.


–        Part time employed or locum Optometrist considered

Our practices specialise in providing an extremely high standard of eyecare with some of the best equipment available (Optomap, OCT, autorefraction, Humphrey VF analyser, corneal topography). Pre-screening will be provided with eye examinations lasting between 45-60 minutes. You will be supported by a very experienced team of dispensing opticians and optical assistants.
