The organisation was founded in 2003 and is made up of a Council of approximately 25 people representing each Regional Optical Committee, the Association of Optometrists (AOP), The Federation of Dispensing Opticians (FODO), the College of Optometrists, Welsh Optical Committee, Cardiff School of Optometry and both Independent Practices and Multiples. Optometry Wales meet twice a year with one of these meetings being an AGM and oversee the work of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is comprised of the Chair of Optometry Wales, Treasurer, the 3 Sub Group Chairs of Education, Primary Care Development and Communications and 5 other representatives from the wider Council.

Barry is a Dispensing Optician and represents ABDO at a national level and attends OW Council meetings as an Observer.
Shiraz lives in Cardiff and works as an independent Optometrist in Merthyr Tydfil, Mountain Ash and Rhymney (Gwent). He is one of the Optometry locality leads for the Cwm Taff Eyecare Group.
Professor North has been a member of the academic staff in the School of Optometry & Vision Sciences for twenty five years and is Deputy Head of the School. She is actively engaged in shaping the direction of optometry in Wales and the UK. As a registered Optometrist she is an examiner for the professional qualifying examinations of the College of Optometrists, a member British Universities Committee of Optometry, Optometry Wales, Wales Expert Working Group on Glaucoma & UK Vision 2020 Eye Research Group. She is an External Examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate Optometry programmes in the UK.
Nadeen is an independent locum optometrist who currently works in Cardiff
Daniel currently works in Carmarthen and has a national role with Vision Express.
Andy has been the optometrist director of Specasvers in Haverfordwest since 2006. Andy became the FODO representative on Optometry Wales in 2016
Ian Jones has been involved in Optical Committees in South Wales in one form or another since graduating from Aston University in 1983 (re-union coming up in the summer if anyone is interested). He began working in the Eastern Valleys and has slowly worked his way West, currently residing outside Cardiff where he was born and bred (apart from a six year sojourn in the Surrey "countryside" as a schoolboy). He is now a Director with the Davies and Jones Optometrists group in South Wales and Immediate Past Chairman of South East Wales Regional Optical Committee having been Secretary for it and its predecessors for several years and immediate past Chairman of the Welsh Optical Committee (WOC)
